GLORIA JOSEPHINE PATTEN (Age 93)

On Monday, November 23, 2015, surrounded by her family at Suburban Hospital. She is met in heaven by her beloved husband, Dr. Ralph F. Patten, Sr.; her son, Ralph F. Patten, Jr. and her great- granddaughter, Maureen Erin McFalls. Mother of Christine Becker, William Patten, Michael Patten and Mary Herrmann; mother-in-law of Vincent Becker, Elizabeth Patten, Victor Herrmann and Maureen Patten. Also survived by nine grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. Gloria was a long time member of Manor Country Club. She enjoyed bridge and golf but most of all she was a devoted mother. Relatives and friends may call at St. John the Evangelist Church, 10103 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD, on Wednesday, December 2, from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. On Friday, November 20, 2015, of Washington, DC. Beloved mother of Tom Poling, Robin Luther and the late Ted Poling and Linda Teel; grandmother of Bobby Wiggins, Danny Wiggins, Theresa Mooring, Nicole Toomey, Brittaney Tassell, Blake Luther and Mark Luther; great-grandmother of Michael Toomey, Travis Toomey, Brady Wiggins, Lisa Hart and Tiffany Munden; great-great-grandmother of Taylor and Tyler Hart. Mary was a native Washingtonian who served her community as a member of the first corps of women Crossing Guards in 1953, a Federal Government employee, an active member of National Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Golden Grannies dance troop. She was a loyal Redskin fan, season ticket holder and recently attended the winning home game against the Eagles. Her talents included singing, dancing, sewing, interior design and most of all making her family feel loved. She supported all of us in our endeavors with her strong leadership, moral support, and sacrificial giving. Memorial Service will be celebrated at National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Avenue, NW, Washington, DC, on Saturday, December 5 at 3:30 p.m. Interment private. MONTGOMERY, Dorothy A.

DOROTHY A. MONTGOMERY (Age 92)

Dorothy A. Montgomery, 92, a retired Montgomery County, Md. Public School secretary and an antique car enthusiast, died peacefully November 26th with her three daughters by her side. Dorothy (Dot) was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 57 years, Rayner A. Montgomery (2004). She resided in Silver Spring, Md. for 50 years prior to living with her daughter and her family in West Friendship, Md.

Mrs. Montgomery was born May 5, 1923 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Central High School in 1941 and worked as a stenographer for the Groff Paper Company in St. Paul. Late 1941, she, along with her family, moved to Washington D.C. to find federal employment.

Mrs. Montgomery worked for the Navy Department for 13 years (December 1941 – August 1954) and held the positions of  Stenographer, Administrative Assistant, and Administrative Analyst. She also had the pleasure of serving as secretary to then Captain John S. McCain Jr., USN (father of Senator John McCain III) during his tour in the Undersea Warfare Research and Development Office at The Pentagon. She attended Strayer Business College in 1943.

In 1947, Dorothy met and married Rayner A. Montgomery. For four years, she supported Rayner and herself while he completed a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland. After Rayner took at job at the Naval Ordinance Laboratory, they started a family and resided in Kensington and later in Silver Spring.

While raising three daughters, Mrs. Montgomery worked in the Montgomery County Public School system at Jackson Road Elementary, Broad Acres Elementary, and Olney Elementary. She retired in 1987 after 19 years of service.

After retirement, Mrs. Montgomery enjoyed spending time with her husband, their daughters, and her daughters’ families. She shared her husband’s passion for antique cars and was an avid square dancer and bridge player.

Survivors include three daughters: Judith A. Rappaport, Columbia, Md.; Cathleen A. Montgomery, married to Mark Sbarra, West Friendship, Md.; Lizabeth R. Montgomery, married to David Knowles, Ashton, Md.; grandchildren, Amy Rappaport, Baltimore; Daniel Rappaport, Washington, D.C.; Gregory Rappaport, Columbia, Md.; Laura Sbarra, Baltimore, Md; Patrick and Greta Knowles, Ashton, Md.; great-grandchild, Joshua Miller, Columbia, Md.

Our beloved mother Bettye Ann Folz of Rockville, MD passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 22, 2015. Bettye was born May 22, 1940 in Evansville, Ind. the fifth of 10 children to Joseph and Esther (Scheessele) Browning. She married Robert “Bob” Folz in 1962. They had three girls. Widowed in 1975, she raised the girls on her own. She worked at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic High School for 20+ years. She was predeceased by her parents, husband and three sisters. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Denise (Scott) Madgey, Cheryl (Jared) McArthur, Kim (Phil) Perez; special niece Michaela Cass; six grandchildren, two brothers, four sisters and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD (Valet Parking) on Friday, November 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Norbeck and Muncaster Mill Roads, Rockville, MD on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at age 76. Ludmila was born in Belgorodskaya oblast, Russia on May 24, 1939 and moved to Tashkent, Uzbekistan in the late 1950s. She married her husband Victor Zaretsky on August 28, 1960, with whom she spent the next 41 years until his passing in 2001. She became a hydroelectric power engineer and received numerous awards and recognition in her field. Ludmila was the most caring and loving mother and grandmother. She was an excellent cook, and loved creating beautiful hand-made gifts for her friends and family. Her strong spirit and zest for life supported her in later years when she became afflicted by arthritis, and could no longer work with her hands and had limited mobility. She remained the rock and foundation of her family until her very last moment. She would be missed immensely by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughters Olga and Victoria, 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The Funeral service will be held at St. Nicholas Cathedral on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to American Arthritis Foundation(www.arthritis.org[arthritis.org]).

Rosemary is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Paul D. “Don” Stout, Jr.; her brother, Richard Chamberlain; her sons, Marty (Betsy), Gary (Lorri), Michael and David (Sheila) and eight grandchildren, Erin, Kelly, Kyle, Blair, Justin, Sarah, Matthew and Emmy. Rosemary grew up in Williamsburg, PA and was a graduate of Williamsburg High School. She worked at the IUE Electrical Workers Union until she began raising her family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
